# Windsurf

> Connect Windsurf IDE to track AI-assisted development

Connect Windsurf to track AI-assisted code generation and IDE usage across your team.

## What's tracked

* **IDE usage** — Active development sessions
* **Code generation** — AI-assisted code creation
* **Feature usage** — Which Windsurf features are used
* **Acceptance rates** — AI suggestion acceptance
* **Cost tracking** — Windsurf spend per engineer

## Prerequisites

* A Windsurf (Codeium) **Enterprise** subscription
* A Windsurf team **service key**
* Organization admin access (for team tracking)

## Setup

    In your Windsurf (Codeium) team settings, generate a **service key** (under **Service Keys**). This is an organization-level key, not a personal API key.

    Go to **Data** → **Windsurf** → **Configure**, find the **Windsurf (Codeium) service key** card, and paste your service key

    Initial sync may take 10-15 minutes

    Check AI metrics to confirm Windsurf data is appearing

## Metrics enabled

Once connected, you can track:

* **[AI code LOC](/metrics/ai-code-loc)** — Lines generated by Windsurf
* **[AI output percentage](/metrics/ai-output-percentage)** — Portion of output from Windsurf
* **[AI efficiency index](/metrics/ai-efficiency-index)** — Impact on productivity
* **[AI tool costs](/metrics/ai-tool-costs)** — Windsurf spend per engineer

## Cost tracking

Windsurf is billed by **ACU** (Agentic Compute Unit) consumption, and Weave attributes that spend per engineer:

* **Usage** — real per-user ACU consumption from Windsurf's Cascade analytics and consumption APIs, plus org-level Windsurf ACUs from the Cognition API if you've added a Cognition API key
* **Dollars** — ACUs multiplied by the rate you set in **Settings** → **Financial** → **Tool subscription costs** (base rate, monthly allocation, and overage rate), so set it to match your Windsurf contract
* **Alternative** — if you don't track ACUs, you can instead enter a flat **seat-based** subscription (seats × cost per user) and Weave allocates it across active users

ACU usage is real; the dollar conversion uses the rate you configure, so Windsurf cost is a **hybrid** rather than a figure pulled from an invoice.

## Sync frequency

Windsurf data syncs every 3 hours via API polling.

## Troubleshooting

    If the service key doesn't work:

    1. Verify you copied the full service key
    2. Ensure it's a team **service key**, not a personal key
    3. Check that your Windsurf Enterprise subscription is active
    4. Try regenerating the service key in your Windsurf team settings

    If Windsurf data isn't appearing:

    1. Confirm team members are actively using Windsurf
    2. Verify users are logged into organization accounts
    3. Wait up to 3 hours for the next sync cycle
    4. Check that AI features are enabled in Windsurf settings

    1. Remember sync happens every 3 hours
    2. Check the **Sync status** on the **API** row under **Data** → **Windsurf**
    3. Check Windsurf API status
    4. Verify network connectivity to Windsurf servers

## Data privacy

Weave syncs usage metadata and prompt content from Windsurf:

* Usage statistics and session times
* Code acceptance rates
* Feature usage counts
* Subscription information
* User prompt text from AI-assisted commits (used for activity classification)

**We never access:**

* Source code content or diffs
* Windsurf's AI responses
* File paths or project structure
