# Gerrit

> Connect your self-hosted Gerrit instance to Weave

Connect Gerrit to sync your changes (pull requests), commits, code reviews, and team structure. Gerrit is always self-hosted — Weave connects per instance with HTTP Basic authentication.

## What's synced

* Changes and their metadata (title, description, status, reviewers)
* Commits and code change statistics (additions, deletions — not source code)
* Code reviews, comments, and patch sets
* Team members who contribute to connected projects
* Project (repository) information

## Prerequisites

* A self-hosted Gerrit instance reachable by Weave over HTTPS
* A Gerrit account that can read the projects you want to sync
* An **HTTP password** generated in Gerrit (not your login password)
* Admin access to your Weave organization

## Connecting Gerrit

<Steps>
  <Step title="Generate an HTTP password in Gerrit">
    Sign in to Gerrit as an account that can read the projects you want to sync. Go to **Settings** → **HTTP Credentials** and generate an **HTTP password**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the instance in Weave">
    Go to **Data** and click **Connect** on **Gerrit**. Enter your Gerrit **base URL** (for example, `https://gerrit.your-domain.com`), **username**, and **HTTP password**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select projects">
    Choose which Gerrit projects to sync. You can connect multiple Gerrit instances if your organization uses more than one.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for sync">
    Initial sync may take several minutes depending on project size and history.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Link members">
    Go to the [Members page](https://app.workweave.ai/members) and ensure contributors from Gerrit are added as Weave users so their work is attributed correctly.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Multiple instances

You can connect more than one self-hosted Gerrit instance to the same Weave organization. Each instance is configured separately with its own base URL and credentials.

## Data privacy

Weave syncs only **metadata** about your code:

* Change titles, descriptions, and comments
* Commit messages and authors
* Review comments and approvals
* File names and diff statistics

**We never store:**

* Source code content
* Repository files
* Gerrit credentials (only a secure hash is retained)

## Troubleshooting

  <Accordion icon="key" title="Connection fails">
    If Weave cannot connect to your Gerrit instance:

    1. Verify the base URL is correct and reachable over HTTPS
    2. Confirm the username and HTTP password are valid
    3. Ensure the account can read the projects you want to sync
    4. If your instance is behind a firewall, you may need to allowlist Weave's IP addresses — see the [reference page](/data-sources/reference)
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion icon="folder" title="Projects not appearing">
    If expected projects are missing:

    1. Confirm the connected account has read access to those projects
    2. Check that the projects exist on the Gerrit instance you connected
    3. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the instance if credentials were recently updated
  </Accordion>
