## What's synced from code platforms

All Git platforms sync the following data:

### Code changes

* **Pull/merge requests:** All PR metadata, status, and timeline
* **Commits:** Commit history, authors, and file changes
* **Code reviews:** Review comments, approvals, and discussions
* **Branches:** Branch structure and merge history

### Team data

* **Contributors:** All engineers who commit or review code
* **Teams/groups:** Organization and team structure
* **Permissions:** Repository access patterns (read-only)

### CI/CD data (if configured)

* **Pipeline runs:** Build and deployment status
* **Test results:** Test success/failure rates
* **Deployments:** Production deployment tracking

## Metrics enabled

Connecting a code platform enables these metrics:

### Development velocity

* [Code output](/metrics/code-output) - Estimated work delivered
* **PRs per engineer** - Pull request volume
* [PR cycle time](/metrics/pr-cycle-time) - Time from creation to merge
* [PR merge time](/metrics/pr-merge-time) - Time spent in review

### Code quality

* [Code turnover](/metrics/code-turnover) - Code churn and rework
* [Bugs introduced](/metrics/bugs-introduced) - Bug detection
* [Revert PRs](/metrics/revert-prs) - Reverted changes
* [Review quality](/metrics/review-quality) - Code review thoroughness

### Code review

* [Review turnaround](/metrics/review-turnaround) - Review response time
* [Review cycles](/metrics/review-cycles) - Review iterations
* [Comment resolution](/metrics/comment-resolution) - Feedback addressed

### AI-assisted development

* [AI output percentage](/metrics/ai-output-percentage) - AI contribution ratio

## Multiple platforms

You can connect multiple Git platforms simultaneously:

* **Multiple organizations:** Connect different GitHub orgs, GitLab groups, etc.
* **Mixed platforms:** Use GitHub for some repos, GitLab for others
* **Unified metrics:** All data aggregates into unified metrics

## Choosing a platform

All platforms provide similar data to Weave. Choose based on where your code is hosted:

| Platform | Best for | Unique features |
| - | - | - |
| **GitHub** | Cloud-hosted repos | Actions CI/CD, Copilot integration |
| **GitLab** | Self-hosted or cloud | Built-in CI/CD, advanced DevOps |
| **Bitbucket** | Atlassian ecosystem | Jira integration, Pipelines |
| **Azure DevOps** | Microsoft ecosystem | Azure integration, Boards |
| **Gerrit** | Self-hosted code review | Per-instance HTTP Basic auth, multi-instance |

## Data privacy

Weave syncs only **metadata** about your code:

* PR titles, descriptions, and comments
* Commit messages and authors
* Review comments and approvals
* File names and diff statistics

**We never store:**

* Source code content
* Repository files
* Sensitive credentials
* Private customer data

## Getting started

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose your platform">
    Select the Git platform where your code is hosted
  </Step>

  <Step title="Follow the integration guide">
    Each platform has a detailed setup guide with screenshots
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select repositories">
    Choose which repositories to sync
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for initial sync">
    First sync may take a few minutes depending on repository size
  </Step>

  <Step title="View metrics">
    Access code metrics in the Overview and Reports pages
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Most teams connect their primary Git platform first, then add other integrations (Linear, Jira, Slack) to enrich the data.
