# Confluence

> Connect Confluence to track documentation activity and collaboration

Connect Confluence Cloud to sync your pages, blog posts, and comments for documentation analytics.

## What's synced

Weave syncs the following data from your Confluence workspace:

| Data | Details |
| - | - |
| **Pages** | Page content, titles, and version history |
| **Blog posts** | Blog post content and version history |
| **Comments** | Footer and inline comments on pages |
| **Labels** | Labels attached to pages and blog posts |
| **Users** | User profiles for activity attribution |

## Connecting Confluence

  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm access">
    Review the selected content and complete the connection
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Access and permissions

### What Weave can access

Weave only requests read permissions:

* **Read spaces** — list and select Confluence spaces during setup
* **Read pages** - View page content and version history
* **Read blog posts** - View blog post content and history
* **Read comments** - View comments on pages
* **Read users** - Identify who made edits and comments

Weave does not write to or modify your Confluence workspace.

### Content selection

When you connect Confluence, you can select entire spaces and/or individual top-level pages and blog posts. Weave syncs content from your selected spaces, selected pages, and their child pages. Personal spaces are not shown in the space selector.

<Warning>
  If you disconnect and go through **Connect** again, resubmitting the content selection step **replaces** your prior space and page selections. Make sure to include all content you want Weave to track. This is different from the **Reconnect Confluence** prompt for a missing permission (see Troubleshooting below), which leaves your existing selections untouched.
</Warning>

## Metrics enabled

Once connected, Weave tracks documentation activity. See [Documentation metrics](/metrics/documentation) for details on:

* **Doc activities** - Count of page creates, edits, and comments
* **Doc words modified** - Volume of documentation changes
* **Substantialness ratios** - Proportion of major, medium, and minor changes
* **Technical ratio** - Balance of technical vs non-technical documentation

## Version history

Unlike some other doc platforms, Confluence provides full version history. Weave uses this to:

* Track who made each edit over time
* Attribute activities to the correct authors
* Analyze documentation patterns historically

## Troubleshooting

### Space list won't load (reconnect required)

If you connected Confluence before space-level selection was available, your authorization may be missing the **read spaces** scope (`read:space:confluence`). The configure page shows a **Reconnect Confluence** prompt instead of the space list.

1. Click **Reconnect Confluence** on the configure page (or go to **Data** → **Confluence** → **Connect**)
2. Re-authorize with Atlassian — this grants the additional space-read permission
3. Return to configure and select the spaces you want Weave to track

Page-level selections from before the reconnect remain usable; reconnecting only affects space listing.

### Pages not syncing

1. Verify the page is in a selected space or included in your selected pages
2. Check that Weave has access to the parent space
3. Re-sync the workspace from **Data**

### Users not matching

Weave matches Confluence users to accounts by email. If a user isn't linked:

1. Ensure their Confluence email matches their Weave account email
2. Check the members connection page for unlinked users

## Disconnecting Confluence

To disconnect Confluence, contact Weave support at [support@workweave.ai](mailto:support@workweave.ai). Confluence connections are managed at the organization level and require support assistance to remove.

To revoke Weave's access from the Atlassian side, go to your Atlassian account settings and remove the Weave app under **Connected apps**.
