# Google Drive

> Connect Google Drive to track documentation activity in Google Docs

Connect Google Drive to sync your Google Docs for documentation analytics.

## What's synced

Weave syncs the following data from your Google Drive:

| Data | Details |
| - | - |
| **Documents** | Google Docs content and metadata |
| **Comments** | Comments and discussions on documents |
| **Users** | User profiles for activity attribution |

<Note>
  Weave currently supports Google Docs only. Google Sheets, Slides, and other file types are not synced.
</Note>

## Access and permissions

### What Weave can access

Weave requests read-only access to Google Drive:

* **Read files** - View document content you've selected
* **Read metadata** - Access file names, dates, and ownership
* **Read comments** - View comments on selected documents

Weave does not write to or modify your Google Drive.

### File selection

When you connect Google Drive, you use Google's native file picker to select specific files and folders. Weave only syncs content from your selections.

**Folder selection:** When you select a folder, Weave syncs all Google Docs within that folder and its subfolders.

<Warning>
  All selected items must be from the same drive (either your personal "My Drive" or a specific shared drive). You cannot mix items from different drives.
</Warning>

## Shared drives

Weave supports both personal drives ("My Drive") and shared drives (formerly Team Drives). When connected to a shared drive, Weave can sync members for user attribution.

<Note>
  Personal drives don't have a member list, so user matching relies on email addresses from document metadata.
</Note>

## Metrics enabled

Once connected, Weave tracks documentation activity. See [Documentation metrics](/metrics/documentation) for details on:

* **Doc activities** - Count of document edits and comments (document creates and edits with no content change aren't counted by default)
* **Doc words modified** - Volume of documentation changes
* **Substantialness ratios** - Proportion of major, medium, and minor changes
* **Technical ratio** - Balance of technical vs non-technical documentation

## Real-time updates

After the initial sync, Weave receives real-time updates via webhooks when documents in your selected files and folders are modified.

## Troubleshooting

### Documents not syncing

1. Verify the document is a Google Doc (not Sheets, Slides, or uploaded files)
2. Check that the document is in a selected folder or was directly selected
3. Re-sync the workspace from **Data**

### Users not matching

Weave matches Google Drive users to accounts by email. If a user isn't linked:

1. Ensure their Google email matches their Weave account email
2. Check the members connection page for unlinked users

## Disconnecting Google Drive

To disconnect Google Drive, contact Weave support at [support@workweave.ai](mailto:support@workweave.ai). Google Drive connections are managed at the organization level and require support assistance to remove.

To revoke Weave's access from the Google side, go to your [Google Account permissions](https://myaccount.google.com/permissions) and remove the Weave app.
