# Review turnaround

> The time between a review request or code update and review submission

## How it works

Review turnaround measures how long reviewers take to respond to a pull request, and each response is measured separately. Weave supports two tracking modes that you can configure in **Settings** → **General** → **Code review turnaround**.

### From review request (default)

When someone requests a review from a reviewer or team using your code host's reviewer-assignment feature (for example, GitHub's "Request review" button), the timer starts. For an individual request, the timer stops when that person first submits a review or comments on the PR. For a team request, it stops at the first review or PR comment from a member who is eligible for that team at the review time.

The request is attributed to the team, while the review action is attributed to the member who submitted it. A team request creates one response obligation; it is not copied to every team member. GitHub team membership eligibility uses roster sync observations, so historical requests before membership tracking began may not have a resolvable team response.

This mode is the most precise but requires your team to use reviewer assignment consistently.

### From code update

The timer starts from the most recent code push before each review. Every review or PR comment from someone other than the author is measured separately, so if two reviewers respond to the same push, both responses count.

This mode works well for teams that coordinate reviews outside GitHub (e.g., via Slack) and don't consistently use the "Request review" button. It captures review activity that would otherwise go untracked.

## Configuration

You can switch between tracking modes in **Settings** → **General** → **Code review turnaround**. When you switch, Weave recalculates review turnaround for past reviews too, not just new ones. By default, weekends are excluded from turnaround time. To count every calendar day, turn on **Hardcore mode** under **Settings** → **General** → **Time calculation**.

<Note>Self-reviews (where the PR author reviews their own PR) are excluded from this metric.</Note>
