# Asana

> Connect Asana to track task completion and delivery metrics

Connect Asana to sync your tasks, projects, and team data for task-based metrics.

## What's synced

* Tasks and their status
* Projects you select during setup
* Teams (on Asana organizations)
* Workspace members for attribution
* Portfolios and portfolio hierarchy (optional — requires an Enterprise service account token)

  Asana subtasks are not synced today. Weave syncs top-level tasks only.

## Connecting Asana

## Portfolio hierarchy (optional)

Asana portfolios sit above projects in strategic planning views. To sync them into Weave:

1. After OAuth, on the project selection screen, open **Portfolio hierarchy (optional)**
2. Paste an Asana **Enterprise service account token** from your Enterprise admin console
3. Click **Save**

Portfolios appear above synced projects in Weave's project hierarchy. If you skip this step, Weave still syncs the projects and tasks you selected — only the portfolio layer is omitted.

Clear the token with **Clear** if it expires or was entered incorrectly; a bad token can block Asana sync until removed.

## Task status mappings

Asana boards use section names and custom status fields that do not map one-to-one to Weave's canonical task statuses. After the first sync, map each Asana section or status-field option to **Open**, **In progress**, **Completed**, **Cancelled**, or **Unknown** under **Settings → Organization → Asana mappings**.

Weave seeds sensible defaults from section names on the first sync. Your edits are preserved across later syncs.

## Metrics enabled

Once connected, you can track:

* **Task delivery** — Tasks completed over time
* **Task lead time** — Time from creation to completion
* **Bug tasks** — Bug-related issues
* **Project and portfolio views** — Work grouped by Asana project (and portfolio, when configured)

## Linking tasks to PRs

Weave automatically links PRs to Asana tasks when:

* The PR branch name, title, or description contains an `app.asana.com` permalink to the task
* The PR branch name, title, or description mentions the task ID

Asana does not use short issue keys like Jira's `PROJ-123`, so pasting the task URL from Asana is the most reliable linking signal. This enables tracking from task creation through code delivery.
