Weave tracks conversation patterns in your Slack workspace to help you understand communication volume and team responsiveness.
Metrics include threads in private channels the Weave bot has been added to, and in public channels where the Weave bot or a Slack user who connected their account to Weave is a member. Bot-initiated threads and bot responses are excluded.

Slack threads

Counts the number of threads started in tracked Slack channels. Each thread is attributed to the person who started it.

What’s included

  • Human-started threads in public and private channels
  • Attribution to the thread starter

What’s excluded

  • Direct messages (DMs)
  • Individual replies within threads
  • Bot-initiated threads

Use case

Track communication volume across your team, identify who is initiating discussions, and monitor how patterns change over time.

Slack thread response time

Measures the median time from when a thread is started to when someone else replies. Self-replies by the thread starter don’t count.

What’s measured

  • Time to first response from someone other than the thread starter
  • Reports the median value to avoid skewing by outliers

What’s excluded

  • Threads with no responses
  • Self-replies by the original poster
  • Bot responses

Interpretation

Grouping options

Both metrics support grouping by:
  • Account - Individual team members (requires Slack users to be linked to Weave accounts, which Weave does automatically by matching email or name)
  • Channel - Compare activity across different Slack channels
  • Team - Aggregate by team
For response time grouped by account, this shows the response patterns of responders, not thread starters.
