/devusage - Cost tracking — seat-based Amazon Q cost
Prerequisites
- An Amazon Q Developer subscription with AWS IAM Identity Center configured
- AWS admin access to enable user activity reports
- An Amazon S3 bucket to receive the activity report CSVs
- An IAM user with read access to the bucket and IAM Identity Center
Setup
Amazon Q uses the same AWS S3 + IAM Identity Center mechanism as Kiro. Follow the Kiro setup steps — create an S3 bucket, enable user activity reports, create an IAM user for Weave, and find your Identity Store ID — then configure it under Data → Amazon Q → Configure instead of Kiro.1
Enable Amazon Q user activity reports to S3
In the AWS console, enable Amazon Q Developer user activity reports and point them at your S3 bucket.
2
Create an IAM user for Weave
Grant
s3:GetObject and s3:ListBucket on the report bucket, plus identitystore:ListUsers and identitystore:DescribeUser to resolve user identities. See the Kiro IAM policy.3
Configure in Weave
Go to Data → Amazon Q → Configure, open the Configure Amazon Q S3 integration card, click Configure S3, and enter your S3 bucket name, region, prefix, AWS access keys, and Identity Store ID + region. Weave validates access and begins syncing.
Metrics enabled
Once connected, you can track:- AI code LOC — Lines generated by Amazon Q
- AI output percentage — Portion of output from Amazon Q
- AI efficiency index — Impact on productivity
- AI tool costs — seat-based Amazon Q cost
Cost tracking
Amazon Q activity reports track usage, not dollar cost, so Amazon Q cost is seat-based. Enter your Amazon Q subscription in Settings → Financial → Tool subscription costs (seats × cost per user), and Weave allocates that flat cost across the engineers active in Amazon Q during each period.Data privacy
Weave syncs only aggregate usage metrics from Amazon Q activity reports:- Suggestion counts and acceptance rates
- Lines of code generated and accepted
- Chat and feature usage counts
- Your source code content
- AI prompts or chat conversations
- File names or project structure
